Change Texas’ Beer laws!

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Everyone you know should visit http://www.starnoldgoestoaustin.com/blog/ for information about how the Saint Arnold Brewery and our own Rahr & Sons Brewing Company are working with other independent breweries in Texas to change the liquor laws and allow them to sell their beer directly to the public, instead of ONLY through a distributor. The distributor system in Texas has made a few people (and companies) VERY rich, and has made MANY more people who are just trying to earn a living selling their fermented beverages bankrupt. It’s unfair for the state to mandate how a product should be sold, and I’m really surprised that the “Free Market” Republicans in this state have let this go on for so long.

Do your part! Write your state senator and congresscritter!

Yeah, I should have read this page before I doled out all those roles… Bernie and Kevin, I don’t know when you wrote your posts, but they’re published now and your permissions are fixed. No more approval needed from me anymore!

Fine, I’ll go first…

Just a quick introductory post:

I’m Bernie of Panther City Bicycles semi-fame. I’m also running for the distrcit 9 seat on Fort Worth City Council in May.

I’ll try to be a fairly regular contributor here. In fact, I’m working on a post with actual content for you for tomorrow.

*tap tap*…Is this thing on?

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

Well hello, there. Seems as though all of a sudden, I have posting privileges here at Cowtown Chronicles, and after seeing a plea to us to post something, I thought I’d step up and be first.

So, hi there! I’m Kevin Buchanan, owner and editor-in-chief of Fort Worthology, the blog that keeps you up-to-date on urban development here in Fort Worth. VISIT IT. I’m not entirely sure what sort of things I’ll be posting here at Cowtown Chronicles, but I’m glad to be here. Hopefully, I won’t make Pete regret giving me posting privileges. :)

29° Tavern in Fort Worth

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

So, I’ve been invited to the opening (soft opening, actually) of the new 29º Tavern in Fort Worth. It’s over off Hulen and 30, by Central Market.

I’ve been told that it’s from the same people that brought you Bennigan’s and The Plano Tavern. I have to say that I haven’t been impressed with either of those concepts, and the thought of beer (especially good beer) served that cold makes me well, shiver. Or sad and disgusted. I guess I’ll just be drinking Miller Lite, since “American Light Lagers” are designed to be served that cold.

I’ll be back on Friday or Saturday with my full report!

Where are the posts?

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

Okay, so I opened things up for y’all to be able to post on your own, not just comment…

But no one’s posted yet.

c’mon baby! Share!

Which Science Fiction Writer are you?

Sunday, January 28th, 2007
I am:
William Gibson

The chief instigator of the “cyberpunk” wave of the 1980s, his razzle-dazzle futuristic intrigues were, for a while, the most imitated work in science fiction.

Which science fiction writer are you?

I thought this was interesting (of course I know that these are completely made up and non-realistic), since I’m taking a lit class that focuses on Science Fiction. Unfortunately William Gibson is not on the reading list. He IS one of my favorite SF authors, though.

Goals are good!

I’ll bet some of you thought I wouldn’t do it, but I did! Hooray Beer!

Our attempted ex-dog…

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

So, you may have heard about this dog we got… Well, he keeps trying to get out. I say “trying,” but in fact he’s gotten out twice so far. But at least now I know exactly how he’s doing it. Does anybody have the number for a good fence installer?

Well, crap.

Wordpress 2.1, which is the version that this site is running on, breaks Ecto, which is the blogging client that I use to do all that cool stuff like automatically insert links to iTunes for the music that I’m currently listening to.

It looks like I’m going to be posting manually through the web interface (like you commoners) for a while until one or the other is updated.
