It’s Time To Invade Myanmar

If the whole conceit of the invasion of Iraq was to punish Saddam Hussein for his systematic killing of all those Iraqi Kurds and scores of his political opponents, then aren’t we obligated to PREVENT the potential deaths of hundreds of thousands (some estimates say as many as a million) of Burmese citizens?

The military Junta in Burma is actively blocking the delivery and distribution of aid to victims of the recent typhoon. (A typhoon is like a hurricane, only in the southern hemisphere.) The UN (as is typical) has denounced most vigorously this inaction and demanded access, but isn’t really going much farther than that. President Bush intends to call Chinese President Hu, but you know, Hu’s out of town, and Bush’s daughter is getting married out in the boonies in Texas… I’m sure he’ll get around to it, just like he eventually got around to helping out all those folks down in New Orleans.

One interesting note in that article above: Doesn’t it seem like this administration does EVERYTHING THEY CAN to keep diplomatic efforts below the Presidential level? This says one of two things to me:

1. President Bush really is the moron he comes off to be in nearly all of his speeches and press conferences, and the administration (by “administration,” I mean “Dick Cheney“) knows that putting him in front of actual, competent foreign leaders would likely do more harm than good.

OR

2. President Bush is just too lazy or disinterested to actually get off his ass and DO HIS JOB representing our country.

Discuss.
